Insects hate this stuff. If you were a bug would you chew on concrete when the neighbor’s house was built from soft pine?
As lumber degenerates from moisture it becomes more susceptible to insects. RASTRA eliminates this problem.
The mixture of cement and polystyrene in RASTRA creates an undesirable environment for insects. Concrete fills the interior channels and pores of the RASTRA surface, eliminating channels that termites and other insects could use for migration and nesting. RASTRA has no nutritional content to attract insects including termites. ICFs made of EPS provide a perfect environment for termites and carpenter ants to burrow through the EPS, not to eat but to nest and reach food.
Replacing wood frame construction with RASTRA also eliminates the need for pesticides that could leach into nearby soils.
